1st Annual Walk/Run to Cure HHT

May 18, 2014 - Chapel Hill, NC

Sorry, but the online registration is no longer available for this event.

On Sunday, May 18th, UNC Health Care is co-hosting its 1st Annual “Walk to Cure HHT” 5K walk/run in Chapel Hill, net proceeds to benefit its event co-host, the HHT Foundation International, Inc.  We need the support of walk/run participants as well as those who lead independent fundraising efforts to help us reach our goal of raising $10,000!

Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) is a medical condition unfamiliar to most. Nonetheless, this genetic vascular disorder (also known as Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome) affects about 1 of every 5,000 people in the U.S. It poses daily quality-of-life challenges to its sufferers, given the disorder’s symptomatic excessive bleeding from the nose, mouth, tongue, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, skin and other organs.

Given around 1,700 people in North Carolina alone have HHT, UNC Health Care was pleased in March 2011 to be named the nation’s 12th HHT Center of Excellence by the HHT Foundation International. In the past three years, eight UNC School of Medicine departments, and one School of Dentistry division have partnered to offer comprehensive, multi-disciplinary HHT treatment.  UNC Health Care is proud to support the HHT Foundation’s research and awareness efforts.
