General: Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern is proud to present the Second Empire 5K Classic – one of the fastest 5K courses in the Triangle area. The event will once again feature the CU Fitness Center Pump ‘n Run Competition. For more information regarding the 5K Classic and the Pump ‘n Run, please call 919-829-3663. Located in downtown Raleigh in the elegantly restored Dodd-Hinsdale House, Second Empire combines history, atmosphere, and gourmet cuisine for an unforget-table dining experience. The exterior architecture of the Dodd-Hinsdale House is Second Empire Victorian, a style originating in France under Napoleon III. It represents the last example of this influence in Raleigh. The beneficiary of the race is Capital Area Preservation. CAP is Wake County’s primary non-profit historic preservation organization. Founded in 1972, their mission is to advocate and invest in the preservation of historic resources as an essential investment of Wake County’s growth. They accomplish their mission through programs of investment, protection, heritage education, and awareness. Pro-ceeds from the Second Empire 5K Classic will help benefit programs such as Landmarks Tours, Mordecai Historic Park, and the Preservation Alliance Symposium. The Second Empire 5K Classic Run/Walk is also a feature event in the second annual Second Empire Grand Prix Series. The Grand Prix consists of five of the best races in the Raleigh area. The other races involved in the series include the Autism Ribbon Run (Oct. 9), the Inside Out Sports 10K (Oct. 24), the Old Reliable Run 10 K (Nov. 14) and the Raleigh Turkey Trot 8K (Nov. 25). Runners who compete accumulate points. All finishers in each race receive Grand Prix points. Individuals accumulating the most points receive money and prizes from our purse of over $1,300.00! Winners will be recognized at a special year-end awards ceremony on December 11 at Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern. For more information on the Second Empire Grand Prix go to www.runraleigh.com
