For the 6k, you'll come back down the trails at the second aid station. But, for the 15k crowd, you'll go up, up, up some more to the ridge line of the mighty Swannanoas. Your destination is High Windy, the highest peak of the range at 4,270, a nearly two thousand foot total elevation gain. Mount Mitchell will be visible in the distance. In either race, enjoy your return downhill of which you've earned every inch. Your destination is the start/finish line at Lake Laurel and the roaring campfire, hot soup and good cheer that you'll find there! The Splashdown to WOW raises money for the 2nd annual World Olympiad of Water, an event for area 5th through 8th graders to learn about world water issues while simultaneously being empowered to do something about those issues. On Earth Day, Thursday, April 22nd, teams of students from Asheville-area schools will compete in various, water-related challenges at Blue Ridge Assembly. At stake will be the funds raised by the Splashdown to WOW. Successful teams will earn water-related grants for their schools to install great stuff such as low-flush toilets, rain barrels and rainwater swales for their parking lots.
