| History: |
Last year the 29th edition of this race attracted over 400 runners and walkers. Robert Stanfield took top honors in the 5K in 16:55. Laura Frey won the women’s title in 20:29. |
| Course: |
The course will be the same as last year and the same as the one used for the Women’s Distance Festival starting and finishing at the Halifax Community Center located at 1015 Halifax Street in downtown Raleigh.

| Individual vs Couples Competition: |
There are two categories of competition – individual or couples. When signing up, registrants must choose between competing as an individual competitor or as part of a male/female couple’s team.
In the individual competition, awards will be presented to the first three males overall, to the first three females overall, to the first three masters of each sex overall, to the first three grandmasters overall for each sex and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 19-under, 20-254, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over.
In the couples competition, awards will be given to the top three couples overall with the lowest combined times and to the top two couples overall in each of the following combined age groups: 39-under, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90-99, and 100-over. |
| Pump 'n Run: |
Additionally, there will also be a Pump ‘n Run competition in which women will be required to bench press 50% of their weight and men will press 100% of their weight. For each press, 30 seconds will be subtracted from one’s 5K time. Awards will be presented to the three males and three females with the lowest net times. Entrants can enter this competition on race day by paying an additional $5 fee. |
| Children's Runs: |
The children’s runs will begin at 3 pm. There will be a 100-meter run for children 6 and under and a ¼ mile run for those ages 6-10. Medals will be given to all finishers ij the children’s run. |
| Entry Fees/T-shirts: |
The entry fees are $25 for the 5K and $10 for the children’s runs. T-shirts will be given to all 5K runners registered by January 24. After that date, the 5K fee remains the same, but does not include a shirt. NCRC members receive a $3 discount. |
| Late registraion/Packet Pick-up: |
Late entrants can register and pre-registered runners can pick up their packets at Inside-Out Sports in Cary on Saturday, February 6th from 2 pm - 6 pm. Race day registration/packet pickup will take at the race site beginning at 12:30 pm. |
| Second Empire Spring Grand Prix: |
The Run for the Roses is also the second event in the eight-race Second Empire Spring 2010 Grand Prix Series. Other races in the Spring Series are the Run for Young in Raleigh on Saturday, January 9, the 2010 Law Enforcement Torch Run 5K for Special Olympics on Saturday, February 20, the WakeMed Cary Distance Festival 10K in Cary on Saturday, March 6, the Run for the Oaks in Raleigh on Saturday, March 13, the St. Timothy’s School Spring Sprint in Raleigh on Saturday, April 17, the Second Empire 5K Classic in Raleigh on Sunday, May 2, and the Inside-Out Sports Classic Half-Marathon in Cary on Sunday, May 17. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.
