| History: |
This is the 17th running of this event. In 2008 Tim Miegs won the 10K race in 35:18. Darby Reed holds the course record of 31:08 set in 1998. Kelcey Carlson won the women's competition in 41:45 Tara Wojciechowski holds the course mark for women of 35:34 set in 2002.
The 5K winners included Benjamin Jones who won with a 16:44 effort and Heather Davis who won the women’s title in 19:33, Kristin Price holds the women’s course record of 17:43. The 5K course record for the men is held by Adam Eigenrauch (15:55). |
| Starting Location: |
The start/finish area for both races is located at the BB&T Building at 200 East Chatham Street in Cary. To get to the race, take the Harrison Avenue Exit (Exit 287) off of I-40. Go 3.7 miles, turn left on Chatham Street, and go two blocks. The BB&T Building will be on your right.

| Course information: |
Both races will start at 9 a.m. and both courses are USATF-certified. The 5K course is basically the last half of the 10K course.Splits will be called at each mile and the half-way points in both races. Water will be available at the start, finish, and three times on the 10K course (twice on the 5K course0. Timing will be with the ChampionChip. |
| Entry Fees/T-Shirt Sales: |
The registration fee for either race is $15 and $20 (after February 27 up to and including race day.) Entrants can also order a t-shirt for $10 if their entry is received or postmarked NLT February 27. A limited number of shirts will be available at packet pickup on the 4th and on race day. |
| Awards: |
In each race awards from Inside Out Sports will be presented to the three men overall, the top three women overall, and the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-59, and 60-over.

| Late Registration/Packet Pickup: |
Pre-registered runners can pick up their race packets and late registrants can enter either Thursday, March 4th, at Inside Out Sports in Cary from 5-7 p.m. or on race day at the start/finish area beginning at 7 a.m. Inside Out Sports is located at 2002 Grisdale Lane in Cary. There will be a special drawing for a $50 gift certificate to Inside Out Sports for all those who either pick up their packets or register at the store Thursday night during the hours of packet pickup. |
| Second Empire Spring Grand Prix: |
The 10K Run is also the fourth event in the eight-race Second Empire Spring 2010 Grand Prix Series. Other races in the Spring Series are the Run for Young on Saturday, January 9, in Raleigh, the Run for the Roses in Raleigh on Sunday, February 7, the Law Enforcement Torch Run 5K for Special Olympics on Saturday, February 21, the Run for the Oaks in Raleigh on Saturday, March 13, the St. Timothy’s School Spring Sprint in Raleigh on Saturday, April 17, the Second Empire 5K Classic in Raleigh on Sunday, May 2, and the Inside-Out Sports Classic Half-Marathon in Cary on Sunday, May 17. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.
