| Event History: |
In its seventh year, this race had over 400 entrants. Fast times were the order of the day as Bobby Mack led all runners with a 14:34 clocking. Jemissa Van Hoy won the women’s competition in 17:34. Both are course records. |
| 5K Awards: |
In the 5K cash awards of $125, $75, and $50 will be presented to the first three males and first three females overall, respectively. There also is a $50 bonus to anyone setting a new course record. Additionally the first three finishers in each of the following age groups will receive awards: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-15, 16-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-over. All 5K entrants are eligible for the drawing of a free Lenovo Notebook, but one must be present to win. |
| Mile Awards: |
In the mile, awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: 7-under, 8-10, and 11-13. |
| Team Competition: |
There also will be team competition with one male and one female category of teams for businesses and organizations (schools, military units, civic groups, etc., other than running clubs.) Team members must be employees or bona fide members of established businesses and organizations. Teams will consist of 3 to 5 runners with the first 3 runners scoring. Plaques will be awarded to the top 3 male and female teams. Winners will be determined by the sum of the finishing times. Mixed teams will be allowed, but will be considered male teams for scoring purposes. Each scoring member of winning teams will receive an award. Team members must register individually and indicate team membership on race day at the team table. |
| Second Empire Grand Prix: |
The Run for Healthier Babies is also the fourth event in the 2010 Second Empire Fall Grand Prix. Other events are the Magnificent Mile in Raleigh on September 19, the Anna’s Angels 10-Miler (not the 5K) in Research Triangle Park on September 26th, the Triangle Run/Walk for Autism in Raleigh on October 9, the Free to Breathe 5K in Raleigh on November 6, the Inside-Out Sports Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 8K in Cary on Thanksgiving Day, the Jingle Bell Run in Raleigh on December 4th and the Jolly Elf Trail Run in Cary on December 11.
